Over the years, I've made hundreds of horses, which now reside all over the world. In this section I'll attempt to collect and gather them all to be enjoyed through pictures.

Hi from Jonas of luuskat!
I am a Karelian-Finnish model horse artist specialising in sculpt work with 15 years of experience. I started as a painter-sculptor, but later chose to focus on re sculpt work only. Sculpting is my passion, my therapy and form of self expression.
I work mainly in curio, traditional and stablemate scale. Collecta, Breyer, Stone, Schleich and resins are my go to's. I try to use as much second hand material as possible to be kinder on nature. I did Instagram for 10 years under username @luuskat, where we created a lovely little community of horse lovers.

In my work I ignore rules of realism; my intention is to capture the essence of a horse that exceeds the rules of the real world. Physics and breed accuracy don’t reside in this house ;). To to me horse is a powerful symbolic being through which I capture feeling and emotion. Ever since I was a little boy i was drawn into horses, they simply have something magical about them. As a kid I used to live at the stables. I would spend days simply watching horses and observing their herd behavior and anatomy. Drawing was my first way of self expression until I moved onto clay.
In the miniature model world I've had many phases. I used to have beautiful, large collections of models, I painted at one point too, but it's been customization that has become the thing: making something better or unique with alterations bigger or smaller. Although I sculpted original pieces years ago, I enjoy re-imagining existing models the most, making multiple variations on a certain model. It feeds my imagination and creativity. I've jokingly started calling myself a hairdresser for horses, as hair is definitively my most favorite thing to sculpt, and probably what I'm most known for.
I've been lucky to collaborate and create dozens of pieces together with artists from all over the world since 2015. My works can be found in collections worldwide in more than 15 countries. They have done great in live shows as well, although this is a foreign world to me and I do not claim LSQ. My horses aren't mere models, they're one of a kind, unique pieces of art, which I pour my heart and soul into. I want them to be treated as such; handled with care and be loved. I intend them to be appreciated in a cabinet, especially as I make rather delicate work. The best art is created by a free mind, which is why after years of offering commission work, I mostly do direct sale & auction pieces only. Don't hesitate to propose your idea though, I may say yes. I won't send my horses just anywhere; I prefer to form a friendship with the recipients of my horses, as they mean a lot to me. The line is always open to this way.
Though I work as a professional fine artist as my main occupation, model horses and sculpting follows along as a dear hobby of mine. Recently my main goal has been to find more eco friendly solutions to create art; producing less waste, using materials consciously and working with intention and nature in mind. On this page you will find my latest works and can get excited for upcoming projects.
I welcome You to follow this journey!

Ps. The word "luuska" is a Finnish name for an old or not so good of a horse. The English counterpart is probably something like "crowbait". To me "luuskat" (plural) is a beautiful word of this small language of Finland, and one which describes my horses well. I make ordinary things something unique and special. Whether it's a beautiful artist resin or a cheap toy model, I welcome them to my studio. What is born thru my customization is deeper beauty. Intuition and soul are vital in creation.
