Breyer Idocus Drastic Custom
It feels like forever ago that I've got to re-imagine a nice sport horse! And Breyer's Traditionals haven't been seen around the studio in awhile either. I reckon I'll focus on hair on this one, something simple and pretty!
Update Dec 13th: Who is this new face? (Literally lol) I'm getting a bit emotional for the fact that I have been blessed with this piece which continues to teach me so much. He has turned into something bigger than my initial simple custom plan. I'm just so happy for this chance to practice my sculpting skills with such an elaborate piece that he is turning into.
No more fear or doubt - just going for it and sculpting like I did when I was Jonas 7-years old! <3
Update Jan 11th: We're progressing well! This project is forcing to go out of my comfort zone, it's great! I've remade his neck and whole face now, which I'm still tweaking. I find it hard to believe I've actually sculpted all that! There was always this weird doubt that I could not do certain things or I wasn't capable. Breaking thought patterns. This piece really represents breaking free and being your own self with no fear. It's some sort of new Independence. I don't usually name my horses, but this is a very fitting project name for this ambitious project. Independence.
The mane and tail are under work right now. Also his ears and face, and leg still. He has gotten so heavy with all the original pieces I've sculpted so far. He is beginning to look like a horse. The wind swept look is coming together!
Update Jan 16th: Ears are getting redone as we speak! Im positioning them more back making them look right and be correct. Tail has finished apart from some final touch ups! Back leg has been thinned down and has had some bones and muscles sculpted - its almost done. His face is being refined and some unfinished areas need my attention still. He's getting there... it's a bit daunting to sculpt from nothing but I'm learning thru the doubt and failure! 😊
UPDATE Feb 6th: He is now all done! A long project which allowed me to practise sculpting on a new level. In the end I feel like I've grown in confidence and my eye and understanding has developed. This project has been very important in this aspect - teaching me what I can do and what I can do better. I'm ready to take on another extreme custom with all these new skills! He turned out a nice retired/slightly older non-specific stallion, standing calmly in the midst of a winter storm. I call him Independence.
